Introduction: Organised by the Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory (MCBL) at the University in Buea, Cameroon and the European Vaccine Initiative in Germany under the sponsorship of the WHO/TDR, this is a one year (3-day monthly) training course targeting early-career researchers – MSc students conducting their research, PhD students and Postdocs in the health and life sciences research fields. Highly experienced researchers from the University of Buea, Université Libre de Bruxelles, the European Vaccine Initiative and other renowned institutions will facilitate the different training modules.
Course Objectives:
a) To introduce basic methods employed in scientific research
b) To develop expertise in the use of research methods introduced in the course
c) To enable participants to select the essential methods for future research projects

Dates: Dependent on specific training module
Course Details: The course will cover selected topics including amongst others; Grant Writing, Scientific Writing, Statistical Methods, Basic Molecular Biology, and Research Ethics. Experienced researchers, who will share their experiences with participants as well as teach the latest developments in research techniques, will deliver lectures. In addition, participants will work on practical sessions to enhance the understanding of topics and to build skills in key techniques. Discussions and group activities will be organised to facilitate participant interactions along with some special seminars on important issues of the day.

Requirements: Applicants should be postdocs, PhD or master research students (upon completion of course
work) in a relevant field of study or working in a health/life science research environment.
Course Fee: There is no tuition fee required to attend this course. Participants from outside Buea will have to
meet their travel and accommodation expenses.
Award: A certificate of attendance will be issued to each participant on successful completion of the training.
